The Pavilion at Intersect is located in Irvine, California, and earned an honorable mention at the Santa Barbara AIA design awards. This 1,600-square-foot building was created with AB Design and COR 10 Studios. It consists of a two-story, commercial structure utilizing shipping containers. The containers in the shape of an “L” are supported on a conventional spread foundation, and it also contains exterior decks and a structurally independent elevator shaft. The decks are composed of cold-formed steel framing, and the roof overhangs are done with plywood sheathing. This industrial urbanity in an otherwise suburban community is aesthetically enticing, appealing to visitors and employees.
